Since being assigned to the Institute of Soil and Water Conservation after graduation, he has been engaged in research on sustainable utilization of natural resources, high-quality and sustainable development of soil and water conservation and forest and grassland, and high-quality agricultural production. He has presided over or participated in a number of important national scientific research projects, such as the National Fund Project "Research on Soil Moisture Carving Capacity of Artificial Caragana Ellis Forest in Semi-arid Areas of Loess Hills", and innovatively proposed the theoretical basis for high-quality and sustainable development of soil and water conservation, and a new theory of soil and water conservation ; proposed the theoretical basis for high-quality and sustainable development of forest and grassland, the resource utilization limit theory and the vegetation carrying capacity theory, which include the spatial resource utilization limit theory and spatial vegetation carrying capacity theory in areas with sufficient water and fertilizer; the soil water resource utilization limit theory and soil moisture vegetation carrying capacity theory in areas with water shortage, and the soil nutrient resource utilization limit theory and soil nutrient vegetation carrying capacity theory in areas with nutrient shortage ; proposed the concept and determination method of the key period for the regulation of plant resource relationships . As plants grow, plant canopies and root systems develop, the ability of plants to utilize resources increases, while the amount of available resources generally shows a downward trend. When the amount of utilized resources drops to the resource utilization limit, the plant resource relationship enters the critical period of plant resource relationship regulation. The end of the critical period of plant resource relationship regulation is when the plant resource relationship regulation fails. High-quality sustainable management methods for forest grassland and soil and water conservation, and high-quality sustainable management methods for agriculture are proposed. High-quality sustainable management methods for soil and water conservation and high-quality production methods for agriculture are proposed. Among them, the paper "Soil Aridification and Soil Moisture Vegetation Carrying Capacity of Artificial Forest and Grassland in Semi-arid Regions" (2003, 23 ( 8 ): 1640-1647 ) published in the Acta Ecologica Sinica has been cited more than 330 times by others. His research results have won three national second prizes and more than 10 provincial and ministerial awards. Among them, the National Natural Science Foundation project "Research on Soil Moisture Carrying Capacity of Artificial Caragana Korshinskii Forest in Semi-arid Regions of Loess Hills" presided over by him. In 2015, he won the second prize of Shaanxi Province Science and Technology Award.
